Built for Performance & Durability
Construction sites present tough conditions load-bearing, environmental exposure, and structural integrity are all vital.
Our ERW steel tubes are built to handle these conditions with consistency and dependability. We supply round, square, and rectangular profiles in a range of wall thicknesses, all manufactured with high weld integrity and surface quality.
Every batch is tested to meet structural, mechanical, and forming standards, ensuring reliable outcomes in cutting, bending, and site applications.
What is ERW Steel Tube in Industry?
Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) tubes are pivotal across many industries, thanks to their precision, strength, and adaptability. Manufactured by cold-forming steel and welding the seam with high-frequency electric resistance, ERW tubes offer a reliable, smooth finish suited for a wide range of applications. From automotive and construction to renewable energy and furniture design, their lightweight yet durable structure supports both performance and sustainability. Explore our in-depth article to learn how ERW tubes drive innovation across sectors—and uncover their unexpected roles in modern industrial landscapes.
Quality-Controlled Agricultural Tube Manufacturing
At Top Tubes, quality control is at the core of our ERW tube manufacturing process. We follow rigorous testing procedures to ensure that every length of tube we produce delivers the strength, durability, and consistency your application depends on.
Key Tests We Perform:
Tensile Test
What is a Tensile Test?
A tensile test measures the strength of the tube by applying tension until it breaks. This test determines the material's tensile strength, elongation, and yield strength, ensuring the tube can withstand the stresses it may encounter in its intended application.
Flattening Test
What is a Flattening Test?
A flattening test assesses the ductility and weld integrity of the ERW tube. In this test, a section of the tube is compressed until it flattens. This process reveals any potential defects in the weld seam and ensures that the tube will perform reliably under pressure.
Impact Test
What is an Impact Test?
An impact test evaluates the toughness of the tube by subjecting it to a sudden force or shock. This test measures the material's ability to absorb energy and resist fracturing, ensuring that the tube can endure impacts without failing.
Expansion Test
What is an Expansion Test?
The expansion test involves forcing a plug into the end of the tube to widen it, assessing the material's ability to deform without cracking. This test is crucial for applications where the tube may need to be expanded or fitted with other components, ensuring that the tube maintains its integrity even when deformed.
Non-Destructive Weld Test
What is a Non-Destructive Weld Test?
Unlike destructive tests, non-destructive testing (NDT) examines the weld's quality without damaging the tube. Techniques such as ultrasonic testing or X-ray inspection are used to detect any internal flaws or inconsistencies in the weld, ensuring the tube's structural integrity without compromising its usability.
Visual Test
What is a Visual Test?
A visual test involves a detailed inspection of the tube's surface and welds to identify any visible defects, such as cracks, porosity, or surface irregularities. This test is an essential part of the quality control process, ensuring that the tubes not only meet the required specifications but also have a flawless appearance.
Did You Know?
At Top Tubes, our commitment to quality is so stringent that if a single seam cracks during a tube test, we discard and restart the entire batch.
We then review our tolerances. We believe in delivering only the best, without compromise.
This ensures that you never receive anything less than a Top Tube!
Certified and Consistent Quality
We manufacture our ERW tubing under ISO 9001-certified systems, ensuring tight tolerances, reliable weld integrity, and superior surface finish. Every tube is produced to British and European standards, making it fit for structural, fabricated, and specialist military applications.
Advanced Manufacturing with Scalable Capacity
From our West Midlands facility, we operate multiple ERW tube mills and laser cutting machines, enabling us to meet demanding design and volume requirements on short lead times.
Our BLM Adige LT7 and Trumpf 5000/7000 systems support multi-axis tube laser cutting across diameters from 12mm to 152mm ideal for slots, mitres, and pre-assembly perforations.
To support production continuity, we generate nitrogen on-site to maintain consistent laser cutting performance and avoid production delays, helping deliver to tight construction schedules across the UK and Europe.
Value-Added Services
In addition to tube manufacture, we offer full-service support including:
- Tube laser cutting for exacting part geometry
- In-line edge profiling for clean joins and better fitment
- In-house delivery fleet for reliable lead times
We work with construction contractors, fabricators, and OEMs to supply tube that integrates smoothly into specialist UK-based applications.
Advanced Tube Laser Cutting Services
Our in-house laser cutting capability plays a vital role in supplying the construction sector. From connector cut-outs to anchoring slots, we deliver highly accurate, repeatable cuts across a range of tube profiles and materials.
Using BLM Adige LT7 and Trumpf 5000/7000 systems, we cut complex geometries, angled mitres, and multi-axis perforations on tubes from 12mm to 152mm in diameter. All cuts are CNC-controlled to prevent deformation and reduce the need for secondary finishing.
Why Construction Professionals Choose Our Tube Laser Cutting:
- Fully integrated with our ERW production for efficient, single-source supply
- Accurate interface cuts for fast system installation
- CAD/CAM-driven workflows for fast project delivery
- ISO 14001-certified operations aligned with sustainability objectives
We also produce nitrogen in-house, reducing external dependencies and protecting delivery schedules.
For fastest turnaround, submit cutting files in 3D formats (STEP, IGS, or XT). We also accept DXF or PDF files, although these may require conversion.
